On Friday, August 20, 2010, Dr. Richard Rosenfield conducted the first live surgical broadcast to Nepal to train surgeons in techniques that promise to improve the lives of thousands of women.
In Nepal, some of the world’s most isolated and under-resourced doctors gathered to watch and learn advanced, minimally-invasive surgical alternatives to traditional hysterectomy performed at Pearl Women’s Center. Dr. Richard Rosenfield is an internationally known expert and educator in the state-of-the-art procedure called laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy (LSH). LSH uses tiny incisions and miniature cameras to guide the surgeon beneath the skin. It has been proven to speed healing, reduce infection rates and improve the lives of women when compared to the large incision, open-wound approach. The surgery was broadcast live via SurgiView.com and covered by KATU news.

However, less than 1% of these surgeries take place in an ambulatory surgery center (ASC). Dr. Richard Rosenfield of the Pearl Surgery Center is trying to change that.
