When you decide to start a family, it can be difficult to be patient. If conception is unsuccessful for at least 12 months, you may be considered a candidate for infertility testing. The likelihood that you are actually infertile depends on your age. The majority of women between the ages of 27 and 39 who do not conceive within the first year are successful in the second year when the father is under age 40.
Determining the cause of infertility is often a complicated process that requires specialized knowledge of reproduction. When you visit us for your infertility assessment, we recommend bringing records of your menstrual cycles over the previous several months. Also bring any ovulation data you might have collected by measuring your basal body temperature (BBT) or using a home ovulation predictor kit. While it’s essential that both partners are assessed, our practice specializes in care for women. As part of the infertility assessment, we refer male partners out for tests such as sperm and semen analysis.
Many infertile patients require surgical intervention for problems such as fibroids, pelvic disorders like endometriosis, or fallopian tube disease. Our physicians have extensive training in infertility surgery, including excision of endometriosis and hysteroscopic surgery to remove lesions from within the uterine cavity.
