A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a procedure performed to correct damage that has occurred to the abdomen as a result of child bearing, weight gain or surgery. It is a way to rid yourself of excessive skin, stretch marks and scars of the lower abdomen. The result is a flatter, tighter and smoother abdomen. You will look better in clothes and will definitely feel more confident without them.
Technique
An incision is made across the lower abdomen, sometimes extending from hip to hip. Great care is taken to create the most inconspicuous scar possible. The muscles are tightened at the time of surgery to correct any weakness you may have (bulging) and to add support to the abdomen. A new “belly button” is created that is often an improvement over the original.
What we do differently
We perform a vertical and horizontal plication, shortening the length of the abdominal muscles and closing the gap between these muscles. Many tummy tucks only address the gap between the muscles, leaving the elongation.
We sometimes perform a modified abdominoplasty for less pronounced problems. This procedure utilizes shorter incisions and is less invasive. Liposuction can help blend your contours if needed at the same time.
Your comfort is important to us
During surgery, we take steps to insure you will be comfortable at the end of the operation. We find that if you are not in pain on the night of surgery your entire recovery will be considerably easier. Most patients can walk immediately after surgery and in the majority of cases the abdominoplasty can be performed on an outpatient basis.
