Millions of breast augmentation procedures have been performed since the 1960’s. Many women find the results empowering and notice marked improvement in self-confidence.
Breast Augmentation is safe, does not interfere with one’s ability to breast feed, does not interfere with mammography, and does not cause harm to breast tissue.
Your choices
There are many different types of surgical approaches, and types of implants vary. Our staff works closely with you to design the procedure best suited for your needs. The new silicone implants have been studied extensively and are now widely considered a very safe option for breast augmentation. They are approved by the FDA in women over age 22. These newer silicone implants contain silicone that is more cohesive than previous versions, preventing complications and ensuring safety.
Saline implants are also available. Saline implants are filled with saltwater and have been widely used since 1991. Implants come in many different sizes and shapes to accommodate your individual anatomical needs.
The best surgical approach
Your breasts are multi-dimensional and many factors are considered when planning surgery. A discussion will take place during your consultation to determine your goals. The three main options for skin incision are underneath the fold of your breast (infra-mammary), around the areola (peri-areolar), and in the armpit (trans-axillary). Incision location is a complex decision that you will make together with Dr. Bensimon. We have extensive experience with all surgical approaches. The trans-axillary approach can be more technically challenging to perform, but results in no visible scarring of the breast.
A common misconception
There is a common misconception that breast augmentation is a simple procedure comprised of surgical introduction of an implant. However, this surgery is more complex than many realize, as a re-shaping of the breast is required to allow for the implant to look natural. Breast augmentation, when performed correctly, is a sophisticated procedure that requires planning and careful execution. We strive to provide you with breasts that are natural in appearance and in proportion with your body, while meeting your goals and expectations.
Your comfort is important to us
Your post operative comfort begins in surgery. The surgery is performed in a manner which is precise and gentle on your tissues resulting in a comfortable recovery. We don’t rely on straps, bindings or special bras to help create your shape after surgery. These devices are often ineffective and a poor substitute for technique. Shaping and contouring the breast occurs during the surgical procedure. This enhances postoperative comfort without restricting your movement.
