Pearl SurgiCenter Makes History in Women’s Minimally Invasive Surgery

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

Hysterectomy is the most common major surgery not related to pregnancy performed on women in the United States. Each year, for hundreds of thousands of women, it offers the best hope of relief from disabling levels of pain caused by a variety of conditions like fibroids, endometriosis and abnormal uterine bleeding. Historically, hysterectomy was performed with a large incision in the hospital and required a lengthy six to eight week recovery period.

In 2005, Dr. Richard Rosenfield opened Pearl SurgiCenter to give women a better solution for this necessary procedure. This month, the center made history with its 600th, completely outpatient laparoscopic hysterectomy. “This is the largest series of minimally invasive hysterectomies performed in an outpatient surgery center anywhere in the world. Our patients had no need to visit the stressful hospital environment, no overnight stays and returned to work and normal activity in days not months,” explains Dr. Rosenfield. “We are so proud of the expertise and dedication of our staff and surgeons who work tirelessly to improve the patient experience while helping women overcome debilitating medical problems with less invasive, less painful and more cost effective solutions to large incision, traditional surgery. It is their skill set and the trust of our patients who have helped us earn the position of the most experienced outpatient surgery center in the world for minimally invasive hysterectomy. “
